Beneath the Label
By: Josiah Owowoh
A Summary
They say humans are the product of their environment. Whispers in the back on how we're perceived, differences that exist in the treatment of people, the silent judgment of the communities that surround you. All of these phenomena can be boiled down into one singular thing: Judgment. Yet what happens when we try and change that judgment? What would a change of that scale even look like? This short, two-page piece is a personal recounting of a 16-year old's fight for that change, where he is not defined by labels of others, but rather, that of something much greater than he could dream.
